It is happy using ice cubes straight from your freezer, it works quickly and it produces shaved ice that has a snow like quality. The automatic mixing paddle blends drinks and the whole thing is very easy to clean, especially as nearly all of it can go in the dishwasher. There are quite a few reported breakages due to the plastic used for the center shaft but overall the Hamilton Beach 68050 is a very capable slushie machine and ice shaver for around $20!
